Job Title: Course Architect

Location: Cape Town

Type of contract : full-time


As an Instructional Designer, you are the creator of the instructional framework for training courses on the LobsterInk platform. Your course blueprints will set the pace for success by the Production team to carry out what you designed. You will be responsible for developing the course outline, setting learning outcomes, defining educational tools to be applied and preparing visual notes before handing over to the Project team (in Production). Then your role continues to include quality control and development of other essential educational elements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing course estimates and Course Request forms for accuracy and completeness
  • Preparing your introductory meeting with the client and / or the content expert for the course in question
  • Define learning objectives and create content that matches them
  • Consolidate course content, received from the client and / or the content expert according to the outline
  • Produce the learning section of the course blueprints to facilitate the development of a proposal
  • Develop course assessments, both theoretical and practical
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
  • Develop course evaluation criteria on which learners will be assessed
  • Create and source suitable training supporting material, where required, such as a facilitator guide, case study, project, etc.
  • Ensure each course framework is configured on the LobsterInk platform as per the course architecture
  • Conduct pre- and post- user analysis on learning material
  • Evaluate user feedback and incorporate into the courses where necessary
  • Stress test courses before online publication
  • To ensure all the Lobster quality assurance standards and industry best practices are consistently applied
  • Develop and evaluate the criteria to assess leaners’ performance and develop assessment instructions
  • Conduct research and analysis on learners and contexts
  • To ensure each project’s course architecture and learning elements are delivered within the required time frame and within the approved financial budget
  • Consult with stakeholders and project managers from pre-production to establish course content

Basic Requirements 

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Education, English, Linguistics or similar
  • ETDP / ETDQA / SAQA qualification
  • Thorough knowledge of learning theories and instructional design
  • Prior experience in lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Prior experience in online learning course architecture
