Production Department


Summary of Responsibilities:

As the Director you will be responsible for the creative interpretation and production delivery of a course. You will manage the implementation of creative concepts that drive learner engagement, based on the received course brief and outline. In this role you will work with Producers, creative teams and Instructional Designers, and support them with resourceful and innovative ideas to create a unique, high quality client product. You will lead a team of resources to produce work that is of the highest quality, meets the course objectives and adheres to both the client’s and Lobster’s standards. You will also be required to assume the role of most senior creative team member on the project, working in partnership with the Producer and interfacing with client.

    Key Responsibilities:
  • To facilitate a brainstorming process with the project team and ensure the learning and creative outcomes will be achieved
  • To firmly grasp overall client vision, effectively interpret client briefs and outlines, and generate innovative ideas around new course production
  • To steer, implement and communicate the creative direction for a specific course, including managing creation of the project’s style guide and Director’s treatment
  • To manage the project team, and identify and communicate any schedule delays (and reasoning behind them) to the Producer
  • To assist the Producer, when necessary, with resourcing and skill-set challenges during course creation
  • To manage production of the project from pre-production to delivery, and ensure that all work produced follows the course plan, undergoes the correct checks, and adheres to Lobster Production standards
  • To ensure that Lobster quality assurance standards on hard drive and/or document management are adhered to
  • To troubleshoot and communicate issues that relate to quality, process, consistency, content or client review delivery
  • To conduct the review and approval of all work completed by the project team to guarantee that work is of the highest quality, meets the course objectives, and matches the client’s brand guidelines, within parameters outlined in the client brief
  • To ensure that all course deliverables are finalised for course sign-off
  • To ensure communication is facilitated regularly amongst all project team members and managers for the efficient delivery of a project
  • To plan, lead, organise and control the project team including including writers, animators, editors, designers and instructional designers so that project deliverables are met, and the ongoing development of team members is facilitated
  • To identify and motivate new ways of working that improve the timing and delivery of creative work
  • To ensure correct interpretation and implementation of relevant style guides for any created content
  • To ensure consistency of visual delivery across all production created assets of a course including video, print and interactive mediums


  • Degree/Diploma with a minimum of 5 years experience leading a team in a creative environment
  • Proven track record of a background in editing, videography or scriptwriting
  • Proven track record of working in a multimedia content production or marketing environment
  • Previous experience in e-learning advantageous

Skills, knowledge and attributes

  • A proficient Mac user
  • Able to facilitate creative brainstorming processes, and manage and mentor a creative team
  • An understanding of video content production
  • An understanding or interest in the visual and conceptual aspects of content creation.
  • Able to work in a highly collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator) would be advantageous
